Ao tentar pousar na pista principal, de Congonhas, não conseguiu parar, derrapou, atravessou a pista e bateu no prédio da TAM do outro lado a Av. Washington Luís. O impacto provocou explosão e incêndio da aeronave. Ao lado do edifício da TAM Express era um posto de combustível, fator que agravou a situação complicando o trabalho dos bombeiros. Infelizmente mais uma grande tragédia na aviação comercial brasileira. A maior delas com a morte de mais de 200 pessoas, incluido os funcionários da TAM que trabalhavam no prédio quando ocorreu o sinistro. Aconteceu em São Paulo, Brasil, em 17 de julho de 2007 por volta das 18h50. O vôo tinha capacidade para 186 pessoas a bordo. Saiu no Plantão do Jornal Nacional e os repórteres pareciam nem acreditar no que estava acontecendo, demorou um pouco para entenderem a situação, a primeira informação foi de que um avião havia pegado fogo dentro de um hangar da empresa. As imagens deste vídeo são de baixa qualidade pois foram gravadas ao vivo da TV durante o plantão do JN que deu a notícia em 1ª mão.
