"Money Money", una pincelada de sinismo y buen humor donde Joel Grey y Liza Minelli explotan a la perfección el recurso del tintineo del dinero que mueve al mundo. Todas, obras que aspiran tanto a divertir como a hacer pensar al espectador, plagadas de encanto y densidad, de ahí que por encima de sus excesos es una bella y estimulante película. La película "Cabaret" (1.972) en la que actúa junto al Maestro de Ceremonias (Joel Grey) cuenta con actuaciones inolvidables como "Money, Money" o "Mein Herr" con su legendaria silla. Su relación con el bisexual Bryan Roberts (Michael York), estudiante de Cambridge y que se aloja en la misma pensión, actúa como hilo conductor, relacionándose ambos con una serie de personajes de la época: la prostituta, el editor, el cazafortunas, la rica judía y el decadente aristócrata, todo ello rodeado por el ascenso imparable del nazismo. BIOGRAFÍA: Liza May Minnelli nació el 12 de marzo de 1.946 en Los Angeles Su padre era el director de cine Vincent Minelli y su madre la actriz Judy Garland. Genéticamente no podía salir nada más que una gran actriz Cabaret ganó los premios Oscar al mejor director para Bob Fosse, mejor actriz para Liza Minnelli, mejor actor secundario para Joel Grey y mejor música para John Kander y Ralph Burns. En el apartado técnico, Cabaret, ganó los Oscars destinados a mejor decorado, mejor montaje, mejor fotografía y mejor sonido. La película fue una sorpresa, pues la favorita de ese año era El Padrino de Francis Ford Coppola, que se quedó con el de mejor película y el de mejor guión adaptado. Berlín, años 30, mientras el partido nazi va tomando poder, la cantante americana Sally Bowles (británica en el original) (Liza Minnelli) canta en el Kit Kat Club, un local de la vida nocturna dirigido por el travieso Maestro de Ceremonias (Joel Grey). El británico Bryan Roberts (Michael York), un alumno de Cambridge que se está doctorando en letras, llega a Berlín y encuentra una pensión regentada por la masajista de señoras Miss Schneider (Elisabeth Newman) y en la que viven entre otros personajes, la prostituta metida en años Miss Kost (Helen Vita) y el editor de novelas pornográficas Herr Ludwig (Ralph Walter). Bryan se encuentra en la pensión con Sally y comienzan una amistad. Una noche mientras Sally está trabajando en el club, Bryan conoce a Firtz Wendel (Fritz Wepper), un cazafortunas que necesita clases de inglés. Bryan acepta dárselas. En una de estas clases, Fritz conoce a Natalia Landauer (Marisa Berenson), una rica heredera judía de la que se enamora. Entre los amores de Fritz y Natalia, aparece Maximiliam (Helmut Griem) un aristócrata bisexual con el que inician relación tanto Sally como Bryan, que también es bisexual. Tras una serie de acontecimientos, Maximiliam abandona atropelladamente Alemania, dejando a Sally embarazada. Bryan ante esto se marcha a Inglaterra y Natalia y Fritz se casan. Datos curiosos Joel Grey, que ya había hecho el papel del Maestro en Broadway fue impuesto por los productores a Bob Fosse. La advertencia fue clara: "Si prescindes de Grey, nos veremos obligados a prescindir de ti". Joel, actor americano, imitó en la película el acento alemán, pero sólo es perceptible en la versión original. Bob Fosse quedó tan impresionado por Liza Minnelli que dirigió en su honor el programa Liza with a Z, ganador del premio Emmy. Bob Fosse se convirtió en el primer ganador de tres distintos premios al mejor director en el mismo año: el Oscar por Cabaret, el Emmy por Liza with a Z y el premio Tony de teatro por Pippin. El propio Bob Fosse, afamado coreógrafo, fue quien diseñó todos los bailes de la película. El padre de Liza Minnelli, el director de cine Vincente Minnelli, fue quien diseñó junto a su hija, el maquillaje y el peinado del personaje de Sally Bowles. El musical, lejos de tener un guión superfluo y colmado de números musicales, nos muestra un desarrollo socio político muy bien definido. Alemania estaba a punto de vivir una de las etapas más funestas de su historia. Con todo esto la sociedad alemana, en mayor o menor grado, seguía frecuentando una de sus diversiones preferidas. El cabaret. Lugar que en este caso servía para olvidar, aunque solo fuese por un rato, las preocupaciones. Uno de los fragmentos musicales más celebrados y populares es "Willkommen" y el sensual e impactante "Mein Herren". Evocaciónes del ambiente espeso y picante del cabaret alemán de los años treinta. "Money Money", una pincelada de sinismo y buen humor donde Joel Grey y Liza Minelli explotan a la perfección el recurso del tintineo del dinero que mueve al mundo. Todas, obras que aspiran tanto a divertir como a hacer pensar al espectador, plagadas de encanto y densidad, de ahí que por encima de sus excesos es una bella y estimulante película. De la mano del humor, de la destreza escénica y de una excelente voz, "Cabaret" nos cuenta una historia social real, historias de amores contrariados y el deseo de alcanzar "algo" o de llegar a ser "algo".
