Um RNAm foi transcrito de um segmento de DNA que corresponde a uma determinada proteína (segmento chamado cístron). O RNAm migrou para o citoplasma e inicia-se a tradução: a) o RNAm associa-se a um ribossomos; b) o ribossomos desloca-se sobre o RNAm, expondo seus dois primeiros códons (6 bases); c) os códons (RNAm) são reconhecidos por anticódons (RNAt), havendo um acoplamento entre eles; d) os aminoácidos transportados pelos RNAt são ligados e formam um dipeptídeo, que fica ligado no segundo RNAt; e) o ribossomo se desloca e expõe outro códon (o 3º). O primeiro RNAt se destaca e fica no hialoplasma: Um 3º RNAt se acopla ao 3º códon e seu aminoácido se liga ao dipeptídeo, formando um tripeptídeo; f) o ribossomo vai-se deslocando e expondo os códons, até o final do RNAm.
