oil painting techniques ~ making a canvas By mnilandcom In this demo a wooden panel was used to support the canvas on - very large canvases however are better supported with a frame. Either way the preperation of the canvas can be done the same way. When using a blowtorch ensure to keep it moving constantly otherwise you can damage the material. The material needs to be fired with a blowtorch in order to remove surface fibers, resulting in a better finish. Used in this demo: . Staple Gun . Hammer . Colour Shaper - Wide, no.2 Firm Flat . Material - calico (or other). . Panel - MDF (or other). . System 3 Acrylic Primer - Watered-down to cream consistency (or other for oil painting). . Sponge Scourer . Hairdryer .
